Menlo Park । Meta CEO Mark Zuckerberg has announced the launch of a new top-level initiative called Meta Compute, marking a major strategic move to massively scale the company’s global computing infrastructure to support advanced artificial intelligence and future technologies.
In a statement shared by Zuckerberg, Meta revealed plans to build tens of gigawatts of compute capacity within this decade, with ambitions to expand to hundreds of gigawatts or more over time. He emphasized that how Meta engineers, invests in, and partners to build this infrastructure will become a key strategic advantage for the company.
The Meta Compute initiative will be jointly led by Santosh Janardhan and Daniel Gross, each overseeing critical aspects of the program.
Santosh Janardhan will continue to lead Meta’s technical architecture, including the software stack, silicon program, developer productivity, as well as the construction and operation of Meta’s global data center fleet and network.
Daniel Gross will head a newly formed group focused on long-term capacity strategy, supplier and industry partnerships, industry analysis, infrastructure planning, and business modeling, ensuring Meta’s compute expansion aligns with future technological and market demands.
Zuckerberg also highlighted close collaboration with Dina Powell McCormick, who recently joined Meta as President and Vice Chairman. Her role will focus on partnering with governments and sovereign entities to help build, deploy, invest in, and finance Meta’s large-scale infrastructure projects worldwide.
“I’m looking forward to working closely with Daniel, Santosh, Dina, and their teams to scale Meta Compute and deliver personal superintelligence to billions of people around the world,” Zuckerberg said.
The announcement signals Meta’s long-term commitment to AI leadership, positioning compute infrastructure as a foundational pillar in shaping the future of artificial intelligence and digital innovation.
